A suite of four different products (desktop dock (pictured), soft case, kitchen dock, and car dock) for Microsoft’s Origami UMPC, shown at CES in 2006. The desktop dock was a functional model built in conjunction with Models Plus; the soft case was handmade at M3 from one of Paul’s shirts full of memories. The car and kitchen docks were presented as photoreal renderings. Paul Noble-Campbell and I were the primary designers across the line, with lots of input from the rest of M3’s design and engineering teams. Paul and I did the modeling, and I coordinated the prototyping of the desktop docks (two were made, with PCBs provided by Microsoft) with M3’s engineering and Jared at Models Plus.
A little porcelain pond of data with a lillypad to hold stylus and/or pens. Ones and zeros fall into the vase, where they get processed. Designed from the inside out.
I didn’t get to see them presented, but I hear it went over well.
Loads of detail here I’d love to point out.
